I caved. I can’t believe I did, but I did. I bought a wetsuit. Once again, something I said I wouldn’t do, I have done. But, it was just too good of a deal, and as I become more serious about triathlons, I have realized I needed to get one.
Living in the Bay Area, I don’t really have too many warm water choices for triathlons. I have managed to get through the chill of the Russian River and Lake Berryessa, but I really don’t think I will be able to swim in the bay without a wetsuit. (No Mom, I won’t be in the actual ocean. Stop freaking out.)
Speaking of freaking out, I am freaking out a little bit. I have gone in the water here once and it was friggin’ COLD, so have never entered it again. I have never actually swam in salt water. I have frolicked, but never swam. Luckily, my friend Emily, swimmer extraordinaire is going to help me out, so when I hit the starting line at my first tri of the season I am not having a panic attack.
Caving and getting the wetsuit is just another moment when I realize – I am really doing this. This is really who I am, and I LOVE who I am! (Hopefully I will love how I look in my wetsuit – EEK!)
